The Academy here in Bloxwich, Walsall opened in September 2003 with 470 students. In September 2007 the student enrolment is 1050 with approximately 200 students in the Sixth Form. The School will grow annually to a full enrolment of eventually 1150 students.

The School is one of a number of City Academies to be established in England and is sponsored by The Mercers' Company of the City of Londonand Thomas Telford School, Telford, Shropshire. Free education is provided for all students. The School is funded through a joint scheme between the Government and the Sponsors. There are no fees and applications are invited from eligible students whatever their ability.

Ofsted November 2005 stated that “the Academy provides a good education for it’s students. In it’s third year of being, the Academy already has some notable strengths and there is good capacity to improve.”

The Academy is located on a greenfield site at Bloxwich on the Northern boundary of the Walsall Metropolitan Borough and within easy reach of the M6/54 network and the beautiful Staffordshire countryside.Applications are now invited for a School Nurse which offers an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of this major new Academy.
