School Organisation
Timing of the School Day
There is a longer school day to allow students to take full advantage of the National Curriculum, spend extra time on a range of subjects including Technology and develop an understanding of Industry and Commerce.
Full details of term dates for students and staff for the academic year 2008 / 2009 can be downloaded on the link below. Alternatively contact the academy office for details.
Pastoral Care
The Academy has a caring and clear system for looking after its students. Each student will be allocated a Personal Tutor and the personal tutor group will be a vertical group consisting of students from Years 7-11 and Sixth Form. Personal Tutors will monitor the students’ work and general well being at school. The Personal Tutor will be the first point of contact in the school.
Parents / Guardians
Parents/guardians are encouraged to be fully involved in their child’s education. There will be ten reports a year and parents will be able to comment on their child’s progress on each report.
The Academy will contact parents/guardians as soon as possible if a difficulty arises. Parents/guardians are encouraged to contact the school immediately if they have any concerns on any aspect of their child’s education.
Parents/guardians will receive regular mail drops and a newsletter twice a year. Parents/guardians and other members of the local community will be encouraged to be involved in the life of the school through the Advisory Council.
Parental Partnership
The parental partnership with the Academy will be central to establishing a successful working relationship. The home-school agreement will outline the commitment of the Academy to its provision of education for the students and the expectations of support from parents/guardians. This will include an acceptance of the ‘Standards for Students’ which outlines the Code of Conduct expected from all students.
